Paardeberg Mountain Webcam
This Paardeberg mountain webcam views the Paardeberg mountain located in Free State in East Central South Africa.
Paardeberg, meaning Horse Mountain, is perhaps best known for the Battle of Paardeberg that took place in 1900 during the Boer War, a battle won by British and Canadian troops when Gen. Piet Cronje and his Boer (Afrikaner) troops were forced to surrender.
The mountain itself is considered the gateway
to South Africa's Cape wine lands and is also home to a nature reserve.
Just 40
minutes drive from Cape Town, Paardeberg mountain overlooks the town of
Malmesbury which was first settled in 1744 and was given its present name after
the Governor of the Cape visited the area in 1829 and named it after his father
in law, the Earl of Malmesbury. Malmesbury is the centre of South Africa's
largest wheat-growing area.
