Kigali Airport ~ Kigali International Airport

Kigali Airport

Kigali Airport is Rwanda's main international airport that few had heard of until a plane carrying the country's president Rwanda Juvenal Habyarimana together with the president of Burundi, Cyprien Ntaryamira was shot down in 1994 as it was coming into land. An event which triggered the infamous Rwanda genocide of 1994.

In the last few years, use of the Kigali airport has tripled with now over 300,000 passengers using it each year together with the military and, as such, there are plans to build a new airport south of the capital city of Kigali as the present site has no physical room for development. Watch this video of a plane coming into land at Kigali Airport and see what it is like to making a landing in Rwanda.
