Bafoluto Village
Harmony Gambia is a small UK based charity dedicated to helping Gambian children with their education, health & welfare. The main focus of their fund raising is to help the people of Bafoluto village whose children attend Macumbaya school. Sponsorship for each pupil is £35 per year to provide uniform, school fees and books. Each sponsor receives a report and letter from the child and/or family each year.
The Harmony Link Association was formed in January 2011 and comprises of a small group of villagers who are responsible for carrying out the aims of the charity ensuring that donated goods and money are distributed fairly to help particular groups e.g. footballers, scouts and the most in need. In the future they hope to set up a clinic in Bafuloto to provide a qualified nurse to provide first aid and refer serious cases to the clinic in Brikama. In the long term they would like to extend this to a full clinic with the services of a doctor. At present villagers have no medical facility and have to walk five kilometres to Brikama.
Their immediate plans are to:
Recruit more sponsors.
Plant fruit trees so that young children can get the vitamins they need so
badly.
Provide chemicals to treat mosquito nets and arrange further training to carry
out the task.
Build wells to provide clean water for the village.
